Community Service Day
Fall 2010
Jennifer Kotkin

Once again, St. Philip’s Academy is holding their fall Community Service Day.  The day is devoted to helping individuals in our community that give to us on a daily basis.  The day's events include field trips to a food bank, big brother big sister locations, animal shelters and elderly homes.  This is a dress down day for the entire community, so please wear your fall harvest colors (orange, brown, yellow, green, red-earthy colors).  Please speak to Ms. Kotkin at ext 246 for further details and/or questions.

Early Dismissal
Procedures
Shamair Todman
Dear parents,

In efforts to provide you with quality customer service at the Front Desk please help us by following all school protocols. If your child has any type of appointment and you need to have them released early from school please send written notification (via email, letter, note etc...) to your child's homeroom teacher or Grade Level Advisor and carbon copy (cc) Ms. Makalani at amakalani@stphilipsacademy.org and/or Ms. Todman at stodman@stphilipsacademy.org. If this done, we will be able to have your child ready upon your arrival. We understand that emergencies may arise in which case you may have to pull your student early from school without prior notification; if this is the case, please wait patiently in the lobby as we locate your child's classroom, have them pack up and report to you for dismissal.  Please keep in mind that without prior notice we cannot guarantee that your child will be down in a timely fashion. Thank you for your cooperation!

Calling All Football Fans
Katrina Allen

As the cold weather begins to chase your kids indoors, Thinkfinity has a wide collection of activities inspired by NFL Play 60, to keep your active athletes’ minds stimulated.

Visit http://thinkfinity.org/nfl-play-60 to see a wide selection of football-themed lessons and activities for all grade levels. Some of my favorites include:

Touchdown Decisions - a podcast about the difficult fourth-down decisions coaches face

Within a lesson titled “Mathematics and Football” there is an activity titled “SuperBowl Scores” that can inspire several on-going conversations about the combination of numbers that result in various scores

And

Swish! Pow! Whack! – an activity the creates poetry out of the sounds you would hear at a football game

Shamair Todman
In order to accommodate an ever-increasing number of guests while staying within the guidelines of the Newark Fire Department, we have decided to host two shows on Multicultural Night which is Thursday, December 16th. The presentations will be divided as follows:
Show 1 - 4:00pm
(Students must arrive back at school by 3:15pm)
Daycare through 3rd grade, Junior Jammers and Fusion Dance Junior

Show 2 - 5:45pm
(Students must arrive back at school by 5:00pm)
4th grade through 8th grade, MS Choir and Fusion Dance Junior

Each show will last approximately 1 hour.

There will be a maximum of 3 guests per student. Parents must log into the Parent Portal and register online between November 15th and December 1st. Color coded tickets will then be prepared and available at the front desk for pick up on December 6th. Parents can only attend the show that their child’s class will be performing in. If you have a child performing at both shows you will be given 2 sets of tickets and allowed to attend both shows. Tickets will be available for pick up starting Monday, December 6th. Any leftover tickets will be made available through a lottery system.

Parent volunteers will be needed for this event. If you are interested in volunteering for this event please contact Ms. Shamair Todman via email at stodman@stphilipsacademy.org or call x115 and leave a voicemail message with your name, your childs name and your availability for December 16th. All volunteers must attend a mandatory training session prior to the date of the event.
